Front-Page News: The Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall
November 2019 – February 2020
Christine Lefebvre Design was hired by Freedom Forum (the Newseum) to design their second “pop-up” exhibition, displayed concurrently at Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports. Design services included design concept development, exhibit organization, floor plans and elevations, graphic design, and final graphic production files.
Front-Page News: The Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification. The exhibit explored the flow of news and information in post-World War II Berlin by way of front page newspapers and magazines in the Newseum collection.
FLOOR PLANS Berlin Wall was on view in two locations concurrently and required a different floor plan design at each location to meet their specific space and use constraints. The floor plans at both locations evoked guard towers along the expanse of the actual Berlin Wall.
GRAPHICS CLD was inspired by “red scare” graphic propaganda and Russian Constructivism. Photographs of segments of the Berlin Wall from the Newseum collection were used as background images on the exhibit panels — blank East German sides through the content areas and graffitied West German sides as a special mural on the underside of the escalator bank. The exhibitions used the Newseum’s collection of Mila-Wall modules.
